The 49ers signed Ansah to a one-year deal following the Week 2 loss of Nick Bosa and Dee Ford. He appeared in just two games before suffering a season-ending bicep injury.

QB C.J. Beathard

San Francisco’s backup quarterback closed out the season for the 49ers following injuries to Jimmy Garoppolo and Nick Mullens. He played six total games and started San Francisco’s final two contests. Beathard finished his fourth season Wholesale San Francisco 49ers Jerseys with the 49ers completing 63.5 percent of his passes, a career high, for 787 yards, six touchdowns and no interceptions.

OL Tony Bergstrom

Bergstrom was signed to San Francisco’s practice squad in late October and was elevated to the active roster for the team’s final four contests.

DL Ronald Blair III

Blair III remained on the Physically Unable to Perform list (PUP) throughout the season after suffering setbacks in his recovery from an ACL injury sustained in Week 10 of 2019.

WR Kendrick Bourne

The former undrafted free agent appeared in 15 games in San Francisco (five starts) and was second on the team behind Brandon Aiyuk in yards (667), targets (74) and receptions (49). He led the team with 13.6 yards per catch for pass catchers with 25 or more receptions. He also added two touchdowns on the season.

RB Tevin Coleman

In his second season with the 49ers, Coleman appeared in eight games and amassed 87 yards from scrimmage on 32 touches in a crowded backfield featuring Raheem Mostert, Jeff Wilson Jr. and Jerick McKinnon.

OL Tom Compton

Compton played in seven games and made three starts at right guard. The veteran offensive lineman missed multiple games after suffering two concussions in a span of three weeks.

OL Ben Garland

With Weston Richburg spending the season on PUP, Garland stepped in and played five games at center. Garland suffered a calf injury in Week 6 that kept him sidelined for the remainder of the season.

OL Hroniss Grasu

The 49ers signed Grasu in August with the team’s number of injuries at center. He played in nine games and made three starts in his lone season in San Francisco.

DL Kerry Hyder Jr.

In his first season with the 49ers, Hyder Jr. appeared in all 16 games and finished the season with career highs in sacks (8.5), quarterback hits (18) and tackles (49). Hyder’s 8.5 sacks led all 49ers defenders.

FB Kyle Juszczyk

The 49ers fullback appeared in all 16 games in his fourth season in San Francisco and registered 202 receiving yards on 19 receptions and four touchdowns and added two more scores on the ground, a career high.

** The 49ers signed Juszczyk to a five-year contract extension on March 15.
RB Jerick McKinnon

After being sidelined for two-consecutive seasons due to setbacks from an ACL injury, McKinnon appeared in all 16 games for the first time since 2017. He finished the year with 319 yards rushing on 81 carries and five touchdowns to add to 253 receiving yards on 33 receptions and a score.

CB Dontae Johnson

With the number of injuries at the cornerback position, Johnson appeared in 14 games (three starts) in 2020 and recorded 23 total tackles, two quarterback hits, a sack and three passes defended in his seventh NFL season (six with the 49ers).

DL D.J. Jones

In his fourth season with the 49ers, San Francisco’s nose tackle started 14 games and registered three sacks and three quarterback hits, all career highs, and also notched 20 total tackles and a pass defended.

DL Dion Jordan

San Francisco added depth along their defensive line at the start of training camp with the signing of the former Miami Dolphins 2013 third-overall pick. Jordan appeared in 13 games and tallied three sacks, his largest output since the 2017 season (4.0), five quarterback hits, a forced fumble, fumble recovery and a pass defended.

The San Francisco 49ers suffered another blow heading into Sunday’s season finale against the Seattle Seahawks, as the team will be without two key pieces of their offense. Rookie wideout Brandon Aiyuk and left tackle Trent Williams will both miss San Francisco’s Week 17 divisional rematch.

Brandon Aiyuk Jersey

Aiyuk suffered a high-ankle sprain early in the 49ers Week 16 win over the Arizona Cardinals. The rookie, who was averaging 95 yards over his last six contests, was limited to just 15 yards on one reception after hurting his ankle on the third play of the game.

Aiyuk finished his rookie season with an impressive 60 catches for 748 yards (12.5 yards per reception) and five receiving touchdowns to add to 77 yards on the ground and two rushing scores. His 748 receiving yards are the third-most of any 49ers rookie in franchise history behind Jerry Rice (927) and Deebo Samuel (802). Aiyuk’s 80.1 overall grade on the season was rated as Pro Football Focus’ second-highest of any rookie wideout behind Minnesota Vikings Justin Jefferson (90.3).

“(Aiyuk) and Deebo have gotten both of their rookie years out of the way now,” Kyle Shanahan said on Monday. “Deebo didn’t get a chance, really, the second year. But I expect both of those guys to have a very good offseason and come back ready to take it to another level to help our offense out.”

By the end of the 2020 season, wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk looked a lot more comfortable in the San Francisco 49ers offense and appeared ready to leap to becoming a dangerous offensive weapon.

From Week 7 through Week 15, Aiyuk averaged 94.7 receiving yards per game through six appearances. To put that into perspective, maintaining that average throughout a 16-game season would clock in at 1,514 receiving yards.

Aiyuk has just scratched the surface. That has 49ers general manager John Lynch excited. The young receiver would have benefited more from a normal offseason leading into his rookie year. That didn’t happen, and it may have contributed to a slower start.

“Brandon Aiyuk, he’s everything we thought he would be, and a little bit more,” John Lynch told Tim Kawakami of The Athletic on The TK Show podcast. “When we got him, he had the core muscle surgery over the offseason, so that coupled with COVID, and not having a traditional offseason, he really wasn’t able to train the way that a receiver needs to train to get ready for a season.”

Aiyuk still finished with 60 receptions for 748 yards with five receiving touchdowns and two rushing scores. That was good enough to rank third in franchise history in receiving yards — only Deebo Samuel’s 802 in 2019 and Jerry Rice’s 927 in 1985 rank higher.

Aiyuk’s 60 receptions are the second-most in franchise history. Earl Cooper had 83 in 1980.

“And then we asked a lot of him,” Lynch continued. “We wanted him to be right there with Deebo as kind of our premier guys, and that was a lot. He had a hamstring tweak early in the year. Once he got out there, though, you saw he improved each and every week.”

Lynch and the 49ers hope they’ve found a duo of receivers that will help frustrate defensive backs for years to come. The team may have hit at receiver two drafts in a row. Considering San Francisco’s struggles with drafting receivers, that is significant.

“The best quality about both those guys, they want to be great,” Lynch added. “When you say that, yeah, of course, every player wants to be great. Are they willing to put in the work to be great? And the answer is yes for both of them. They both have the ability.

“We’re in a position, I really believe — they’re both different — but I think we’ve got two number one receivers, if those guys can stay on the field, in Deebo and Brandon Aiyuk. … We’re very excited about Brandon’s makeup and then just the skillset that he brings. He’s got a lot to give, and he’s only going to get better.”

Williams left the game briefly on Saturday, however, returned the next series. The 49es left tackle was diagnosed with an elbow sprain that will force him to miss Sunday’s contest. According to Shanahan, Williams’ injury will not require offseason surgery. Williams is scheduled to become a free agent this offseason after being acquired by San Francisco in a trade with the Washington Football Team for a fifth-round draft pick in 2020 and a third-round selection in 2021.

He has proven his value as the 49ers highest graded player in 2020 and as the top-graded tackle in the NFL (92.1), according to PFF. Williams has publicized his hopes of signing a long-term deal to keep him in San Francisco for the foreseeable future.

Defensive lineman Jordan Willis suffered a high-ankle sprain during Saturday’s contest and will also miss Sunday’s game. Javon Kinlaw missed Saturday’s matchup in Arizona while dealing with a knee injury. According to Shanahan, the rookie’s knee still has some swelling as the team will continue to monitor him throughout the week.

Free safety Jimmie Ward remains in the concussion protocol. Tarvarius Moore, who stepped in for Ward on Saturday, suffered an ankle injury against the Cardinals and is considered “day-to-day.” The same goes for tackle Justin Skule, who is dealing with a knee injury.

K’Waun Williams left Saturday’s game with a shin contusion and returned later in the game. Jeff Wilson Jr. suffered a stinger in the contest and also returned. According to Shanahan, both are “good-to-go” for Sunday against the Seahawks.

The San Francisco 49ers have six games left this season with plenty of questions to answer at multiple positions. Let’s go through each position to see if we’ll have any answers by the end of the season.

C.J. Beathard Jersey

Quarterback
The growing sense from the media over the past couple of weeks is that the 49ers are out on Jimmy Garoppolo. Then the question that’s asked is who replaces him? That’s led to a dog chasing its tail, so we’re not going to talk about that. Let’s assume the Niners don’t win enough games, and Jimmy doesn’t return this season. Do we see Josh Johnson? If the team signs Anthony Gordon, does he get a shot?

The front office and fans know who Nick Mullens and C.J. Beathard are at this point. Last week, Kyle Shanahan said he contemplated playing Beathard: “There’s a time I was like, ‘Man, maybe we should just put in C.J. just to try to spark something,’ to where I wouldn’t consider that normally with Jimmy.” Aside from their starter, the 49ers must figure out if the current quarterbacks in the building are guys they want around in the future.

A backup quarterback needs to be a player that could help your starter prepare and be a leader in more ways than what you see off the field.

All signs seem to be pointing towards the 49ers rebuilding their quarterback room for 2021, and that process should begin with them bringing back a familiar face.

San Francisco appears to be ready to move on from Jimmy Garoppolo and his contract. Once they release or trade Garoppolo, the organization will be left without a quarterback under contract as the contracts of Nick Mullens and C.J. Beathard are set to expire following this season.

In recent weeks it has been reported that the 49ers vice president of player personnel, Adam Peters, has been scouting quarterbacks from Boise to Tuscaloosa. This has only increased the speculation that Garoppolo will be gone and that there will be a rookie quarterback coming in April for Kyle Shanahan to groom. This is a move that makes complete sense when you consider the upcoming decrease in the salary cap and the 49ers need to fill more than 15 spots on their active roster for next season.

Mullens finished the game 24-of-38 for 247 yards, with one TD and two picks, averaging just 6.5 yards per attempt. What isn’t shown in the stat line is how many bad throws Mullens made. The Saints could have picked him off at least three more times and if not for some circus catches by Brandon Aiyuk, Kendrick Bourne and Jordan Reed, Mullens’ numbers would have been a lot worse.

“Really frustrating, I felt like I did a good of protecting the ball throughout the game,” Mullens said. “Really frustrated with myself.”

The 25-year-old Mullens played well in the win over the New York Giants but has looked awful since. In his last three starts — all 49ers losses — Mullens is 64-of-99 for 738 yards, three touchdowns and five interceptions. His average QBR over the three contests is 26.4.

Sure, it doesn’t help when your starting running back averages 1.5 yards per carry on 18 attempts, but Mullens’ lack of arm strength makes it easy for opposing defense to crowd the line of scrimmage.

Cheap C.J. Beathard Jersey

The Saints blitzed with corner C.J. Gardner-Johnson often, and each time they did, Mullens looked like he was standing in front of a freight train. He was scared, defeated and knew the result wasn’t going to be pretty.

Shanahan has his reasons for sticking with Mullens with Jimmy Garoppolo sidelined. C.J. Beathard isn’t the long-term answer and has his limitations, but why not give him the start when the 49ers return from their BYE Week to take on the Los Angeles Rams?

It will help to have Raheem Mostert or Tevin Coleman back in the lineup, but at this point how can Shanahan trust that Mullens will be able to lead the team to a win over a quality opponent? Mullens is 4-8 as a starter and has only beaten a team with a record above .500 once in his career, that came in 2018 against the Seattle Seahawks.

Youth C.J. Beathard Jersey

Missing so many skill-position players has been gutting for the Niners, but Mullens’ performance against New Orleans was inexcusable. The game was there for the taking due to the defense, but the offense couldn’t make a play to support them, and that falls on the quarterback.

We don’t know yet if Garoppolo will return this season, but with San Francisco’s playoff hopes hanging on by a thread, it might be time to roll with Beathard if Jimmy G is done for the year.
